— Of course, international isolation has affected the condition of athletes. But lately we have had the opportunity to participate in international tournaments and our guys have gained points in the rankings. In this regard, we have become better. Compared to athletes from other countries, we had half as many departures. In certain categories, we have very good positions.

— Do you know if our judokas will go to the Olympic Games?

“It’s no longer up to us.” As the federation leaders say, it will be so,” Taov told .

In February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended sports federations not to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were relaxed and in December 2023, IOC head Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who passed the selection process for the 2024 Summer Olympics into a status individual neutral. Athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem and other national symbols.
