Russian boxer Édouard Savvin admitted that before leaving for the European Championships in Belgrade, he promised his wife to win a gold medal.

On Sunday in Belgrade, Savvin defeated Bulgarian Javier Diaz and won the gold medal at the European Championship in the weight category up to 57 kg.

“In my heart I’m very happy, I’m just not out of the fight, so to speak. He was a very intense, difficult opponent. It’s difficult for me to work with such textured boxers. But of course I am very happy. Before leaving here, my wife told me: “When you leave, take what is yours. ” That’s what I did.

— Generally speaking, were you satisfied with how the final went?

— There was a lot of noise. We’re planning the perfect fight and how it will go…I did everything I could.

This is probably the most important victory of my career so far; I finally won the official international championship. The emotions are overwhelming, I am very happy to have brought joy to the country, to my family and to my loved ones. I of course dedicate this victory to all my coaches and my family who, despite all my difficulties and defeats, always support me and push me forward.

—Has your wife threatened to divorce you if you arrive without winning?

– No, but she said there would be fights. Just a joke, of course. She is also a boxer, she knows all my abilities, I tried not to disappoint her, ”reports the correspondent of , reports Savvin’s words.
