“Russian boxers performed superbly at the European Championships” – Tatyana Kiriyenko

Secretary General of the Russian Boxing Federation Tatiana Kirienko described the performance of the Russian men’s team at the European Championships in Belgrade as excellent.

The European Championship ended on Sunday in the Serbian capital. The Russian men’s team won eight gold medals and one silver on the final day of competition. Men’s competitions took place in 13 weight categories. The Russian team won the medal standings at the European Championship.

“It’s hard to find the words, we were in a fighting mood.” The guys did their job well. We were already preparing for a ninth gold medal, but Djambulat Bijamov’s fight was even. I don’t like to say the word “triumph”; I let other specialists do it. We say that we have shown a satisfactory and good result. That’s what sports officials are supposed to say. We are satisfied with the result. We have been moving in this direction for 20 years. In 2004 we won nine men’s gold medals, but no bronze or silver. The European Championship was held for the first time between men and women. Between two teams, we have 11 gold medals, 8 silver and one bronze. It’s just really cool. For our sports country, such medals and the singing of the anthem in honor of the victories of Russian athletes are very necessary. We are proud! — the correspondent reports Kirienko’s comments.

The European Championship was broadcast live on the Match! Fighter” and “Match! A country”.
