The undefeated Ukrainian could have gotten a high-status American as his opponent, but something didn’t work out
James Ali Bashircoach of the Ukrainian heavyweight Vladislav Sirenkosaid that his ward could become a rival Andy Ruizex-world heavyweight champion, but in the end the American got his compatriot Jarrell Miller.
“We had several offers that fell through. We were once offered a fight with Michael Hunter. We were recently offered a fight with Andy Ruiz, but Jarrell Miller got the fight. So we are working. We intend to hit the mark.”
“The offer to fight Ruiz came quite recently. I saw that Jarrell Miller got this fight. We were asked if we would accept this fight, and I answered: “Yes, we will accept it.” I think this is a good fight for Vlad Sirenko. I think he’s ready. Vlad has a record of 20-0, 17 knockouts. If he’s not ready now, he never will be.”
Sirenko defended the WBC Asia heavyweight championship belt in December 2021 in a fight against another Ukrainian Andrey Rudenko. After that, he did not enter the ring for more than two years (in particular, due to a hand injury and subsequent surgery), until in April 2024 he knocked out Deon Ronnie Hale in Nashville, USA.
Note that the fight between 29-year-old Vladislav and Hale was shifted from March to April, as US police arrested Deon a few hours before the fight with the Ukrainian.
Andy Ruiz will fight his next fight on August 3 against another American, Jarell Miller. The fight will take place on the undercard of the fight between former absolute two-weight champion Terence Crawford and WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov. The event is expected to take place at BMO Stadium, home of Los Angeles FC.
