European boxing champion Darima Sandakova admitted that during a fight she is not afraid of her opponent, but of her personal trainer and her second.
On Tuesday, the Russian team returned to Moscow and a solemn meeting was held for the boxers at Vnukovo airport. Sandakova in Belgrade became a double European champion in the weight category up to 70 kg.
“Now I am a double champion and the emotions are overwhelming, the inner feelings are incredible. I still can’t believe how cool and cool it is that we reached the international level with the flag and anthem of Russia. It is very important for me. And I’m happy to represent my country. In 2019, my championship was unexpected, I was inexperienced, and now in Belgrade, my coach and I hoped that I could become European champion with confidence. This year I already had a specific task and requirement: to win the gold medal of the tournament. That’s why I flew and I won. In the ring, I am more afraid of my personal trainer and my second than of my opponent (laughs), – reports the correspondent of , Sandakova’s words.
The European Championship ended on Sunday in Belgrade. The competitions took place in 13 weight categories for men and 12 for women. The men’s team won eight gold medals, one silver and one bronze. The Russian women’s team has three gold medals and seven silvers.
