Russian boxer Sharabutdin Ataev said that the return trip to Russia after the European Championships in Belgrade was more difficult for him than winning the tournament itself.
On Tuesday, the Russian team returned to Moscow and a solemn meeting was held for the boxers at Vnukovo airport. The 2023 world champion Atayev won the gold medal at the European Championship in the weight category up to 86 kg. At the same time, Atayev fought only one fight at the tournament: the semifinal.
— I was more tired from the connecting flight than from participating in the European Championship. But today we still have to fly to Makhachkala, so we have come a long way. No matter how many fights I have in the tournament, I am the European champion anyway. I worked hard to fly to Belgrade and no one can blame me or say I’m not a winner.
