European boxing champion Yulia Chumgalakova told that she had already watched the award ceremony in Belgrade several times.
On Saturday, in the Serbian capital, Chumgalakova won a gold medal in the weight category up to 48 kg and became a double European champion. During the award ceremony, technical problems occurred during the performance of the anthem of the Russian Federation. After the anthem was played and the show began, the sound died down, but the audience continued to sing. Chumgalakova herself burst into tears. On Tuesday, the Russian team returned to Moscow and a solemn meeting was held at Vnukovo airport.
– Thank you for your congratulations. Winning the European Championship is a very important event for me.
— Do you know that it was your story that became one of the main news stories of the European Championship?
– Yes, yes (laughs). This news was very popular. I am happy. I wasn’t lost at that point.
— Now you may be invited somewhere to sing the anthem of the Russian Federation.
— (Laughs) I don’t think that will happen. I don’t have hearing. But if they invite me, of course I will sing. To be honest, I watched this awards ceremony every day. And I get tears in my eyes every time. “It’s very emotional,” Chumgalakova told .
Competitions in Belgrade took place in 13 weight categories for men and 12 for women. The men’s team won eight gold medals, one silver and one bronze. The Russian women’s team has three gold medals and seven silvers.
