Okolie: You can never completely discount Usyk

Lawrence gives the advantage to Fury, but is wary of the Ukrainian’s decisions

Former WBO world cruiserweight champion Lawrence Okoli commented on the upcoming fight of the world champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO heavyweight titles Alexandra Usika with WBC title holder Tyson Fury for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion.

“I think Fury will win this fight. He’s just too big, too experienced in boxing, and he has a great style that allows him to adapt.”

“The fact is that Fury neutralizes everything that Oleksandr Usyk is good at. Usyk is really good at getting in and out, applying pressure and throwing punches. Since Tyson Fury is so much bigger, he will be able to stop this by taking a good step back or forward.”

“I think Usyk, 36, has a lot of work to do to do what needs to be done. But you can never completely discount it.”

The unification fight between Usik and Fury will take place on May 18. The list of other fights that will take place as part of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia is also known. Among them is the fight between Ukrainian Daniel Lapin and Portuguese Octavio Pudivitra for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title.

The event will be hosted by Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The WBC proposes to reform the judges for the reporting fight, increasing their number to 5-6 people. Penalties for boxers who refuse to fight are $10 million.

WBC President Mauricio Suleiman announced that an agreement had been concluded between the boxers for a re-fight. The WBO is also ready to sanction the second fight. It was reported that the fate of a possible rematch depends on the holding of the first fight. Fury said that the contract has a mandatory rematch clause, and a re-fight with Usyk could take place in October.
