Mexican Saul Alvarez said he was in complete control of the fight against compatriot Jaime Munguia and called himself the better boxer.
The fight took place in Las Vegas and lasted 12 rounds. The judges gave victory to Alvarez by unanimous decision – 117-110, 116-111, 115-112.
— Munguia is an excellent boxer: strong, intelligent… But he is a little slow. I saw every shot. Sometimes he bothered me because I became too confident. However, I am proud of this fight. “I’m definitely the best boxer right now,” Alvarez said according to ESPN.
For Álvarez, 33, this victory was the 61st of his career, with two draws and two defeats. He owns the IBF, WBC, WBO and WBA Super championship belts. Munguia, 27, suffered the first defeat of his career with 43 victories, including 34 by knockout.
