The International Boxing Federation will take its heavyweight title from a Ukrainian or a British man.
World boxing will have its undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in just two weeks. At the beginning of the summer, the winner of the confrontation between WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion Alexander Usik and WBC title holder Tyson Fury will be stripped of one of the belts.
The International Boxing Federation will take its title from the eventual champion. The IBF has announced that the mandatory defense of the IBF heavyweight title against Filip Hrgovic is overdue.
The Federation will take the belt, as Fury and Usyk do not want to meet the Croatian, but intend to have a rematch. As a result, the winner of their first fight will be stripped of their title before challenger Filip Hrgovic’s mandatory fight against Daniel Dubois on June 1.
If the rematch between Usik and Fury takes place, only three titles are at stake, and not the absolute title.
We remind you that the fight between Usik and Fury is scheduled for May 18 in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.
Earlier, Usik’s promoter named the condition for the Ukrainian’s refusal to rematch Fury.
