Athletistic / Boxing. At the official weigh-in ceremony before the unification fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight boxing champion, a scandal broke out. Tournament organizers mistakenly determined the weight of Ukrainian Alexander Usik.
According to famous talkSPORT journalist Michael Benson, Usik’s actual weight at yesterday’s weigh-in ceremony was not 105.6 kg (as the organizers stated), but 101.1 kg. Note that the weight of his opponent, the British Tyson Fury, was 118.84 kg.
Tyson Fury is the WBC heavyweight champion of the world. He has 34 victories and one draw in the professional ring. Alexander Usik’s collection includes champion belts in this weight category according to the WBA, WBO and IBF versions. By the time he was 37, he had 21 victories in 21 fights.
The Usik-Fury fight will take place on the night of May 18-19 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and will begin no earlier than 00:20 Moscow time.
