A native of Kazakhstan, representing Germany, lasted just over a round against the British teenager
British boxer Moses Ithauma (9-0, 7 KO) defeated the representative of Germany Ilya Mezentsev by technical knockout and won the vacant WBO Intercontinental heavyweight belt.
The heavyweight bout took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), on the undercard of the unification fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Alexander Usik And Tyson Fury.
19-year-old Itauma destroyed the native of Kazakhstan from the start of the fight. Mezentsev managed to hold out only until the start of the second half, but there his opponent got to him again, Ilya was knocked down and at this point the referee decided to stop the fight.
Itauma was previously in the training camp of WBC belt holder Tyson Fury, helping him prepare for a confrontation with WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO world champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Let us remind you that today, as part of a grand boxing evening, Ukrainian Daniel Lapin knocked out Portuguese Octavio Pudivitre in the first round, winning the WBA Continental championship belt, and former world light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev lost to Swedish boxer Robin Safar by unanimous decision.
The unification fight between Usik and Fury will begin approximately after midnight. The referee in the ring will be Mark Nelson, and the boxers’ actions in rounds will be counted by Manuel Oliver Palermo from Spain, Craig Metcalf from Canada and Mike Fitzgerald from Jacksonville, USA.
