Berinchyk defeated Navarrete by split decision for the WBO world title

Denis walked 3,186 days from his debut in the professional ring to the champion title

Ukrainian boxer Denis BerinchikWBO International champion, defeated the Mexican boxer on points Emmanuel Navarrete and won the title WBO world lightweight champion.

The fight took place in San Diego (USA) at the Pekanga Arena. Berinchyk fought for the first time on American soil and only for the fourth time outside Ukraine. He was claiming his first full championship title in his career, while Navarrete could become a champion in the fourth weight category.

Denis had a solid first round, and later Emmanuel tried to impose his boxing on him. The fight took place in an equal fight with variable initiative and a ragged rhythm.

The Mexican boxer had an advantage in striking power, but overall was ineffective. The Ukrainian was quite mobile and durable, while not inferior to his opponent in size.

Before the fight, there were fears that the judges’ sympathies would remain on Navarrete’s side. However, the verdict was: 115-113, 112-116 and 116-112 in favor of Berinchik by split decision.

The 36-year-old Ukrainian spent 3,186 days from his debut in the professional ring towards the championship title – and finally got it.

Earlier, in April, K2 Promotions CEO Alexander Krasyuk said that the contract stipulated a rematch between the Ukrainian and the Mexican. Another option of the contract is fights with champions of other associations, including a show with WBC champion Shakur Stevenson.

Let us remind you that the triumphant big boxing evening for Ukraine began yesterday, May 18, in Riyadh with the victory of Daniel Lapin over Octaviu Pudivitre in the fight for the WBA Continental light heavyweight title, and ended with a grand victory for Alexander Usyk, who won the title in a fight with Tyson Fury absolute world heavyweight champion.
