Russian boxer Alexei Papin declared that he intended to obtain the right to box for the world championship belt.
Papin has 16 victories and one defeat. He ranks first among Russian heavyweight boxers on the BoxRec portal. On May 24 in Balashikha, Papin will fight for the WBA Asia belt with Malawian Isaac Chilemba, and on June 12 in Rostov-on-Don he will meet with Mexican German Garcia Montes.
“I’m in great shape, I’m gaining momentum. There is a feeling… I can’t say that I have a second youth, because I consider myself young. I had an injury, but now I’m gaining momentum and enjoying the training process. I like that injuries don’t stop me from making the shots I want. Unfortunately, injuries have occurred during my career. In September, I will have been practicing martial arts for exactly 30 years. In 30 years, even metal wears out, what can we say about the human body. But I approach my preparation more carefully, that is, I pay more attention to warming up and so on.
I never chase a knockout. But if I see that I have touched my opponent, then I will not let him go. He won’t stay up. I have a great desire to become world champion. We will have the WBA Asia belt on the line. For the first time on Russian territory, the title will be played after sanctions which are gradually being lifted. I think we can compete for the world title,” reports the correspondent, according to Papin’s words.
In October 2023, Papin lost to Soslan Asbarov, but Asbarov’s drug test later returned a positive result and the result of that fight was overturned.
– This topic is closed. I’m tired of answering questions about Asbarov. After that fight, I realized I had to work harder. To put it bluntly, I was kicked. Yes, they talk about it in the media, but this is not the most pleasant reason. When I fight for the world championship belt, it will be a pleasant occasion. We will talk about it,” added Papin.
The tournament on June 12 in Rostov-on-Don will be broadcast live on the channel.
