“Hold on, son, for mom’s sake.” Judoka Arbuzov’s father talks about how he motivated his son during World Cup fights

Russian judoka Timur Arbuzov’s father, Denis Arbuzov, told that he shouted at his son during fights at the World Championships to cheer him up.

On Tuesday, the 20-year-old Russian judoka won a silver medal in the weight category up to 81 kg. In the final he lost to the current world champion Tato Grigalashvili. This award was the first for the Russians at the Abu Dhabi tournament.

– Lost my voice. During one of the scuffles, he shouted, “Hold him back, son, for mom’s sake.” » Yes, yes, it was like that (laughs). My wife Sophia is also very worried, it’s even harder for her than for me. It happened unconsciously, I didn’t prepare it (laughs).

— Didn’t he have any medical interruptions in the final?

“I think it affected the fight because the pace dropped. But I can’t find any excuses. Tato is a very famous athlete, but Timur was no trash in this fight. We will go home and do an analysis, but for some reason it seemed that in the last part of the fight Timur gave up the fight. Maybe I’m biased, but that’s exactly what it seemed to me live,” Arbuzov Sr. told .

The World Championship will end on May 24. The Russians are participating in the tournament in neutral status.
