Russian boxer Sergei Kovalev he himself knows when to end his career, his former rival from Malawi, Isaac Chilemba, told .

Kovalev lost to Swede Robin Safar by unanimous decision on Saturday at a tournament in Saudi Arabia. For the 41-year-old Russian, this fight was the first after a two-year break.

“Every boxer understands when it’s time to stop. I’m sure Sergei himself knows when to end his career. I can’t say for him if it’s time for him to end it. Kovalev himself must make this decision,” Chilemba told .

Kovalev has 35 victories and five defeats in the professional ring. Previously, the Russian held the WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight championship belts.

In July 2016, Chilemba lost to Kovalev by unanimous decision in Yekaterinburg. During his career, the Malawian boxed with Dmitry Bivol, Maxim Vlasov, Fedor Chudinov, Pavel Silyagin, Alexander Gvozdyk, Tony Bellew.
