Russian judoka Timur Arbuzov, thanks to his performance at the World Championships, earned a place in the national team at the Olympic Games, said the athlete’s father Denis Arbuzov.
On Tuesday, the 20-year-old Russian judoka won a silver medal in the weight category up to 81 kg. In the final he lost to current world champion Tato Grigalashvili of Georgia. This award was the first for the Russians at the Abu Dhabi tournament.
“I think Timur has not achieved this result yet. Two or three days will pass, and he will understand that he became a world championship medalist at the age of 20. It’s cool, he’s awesome! I think the coaches have already decided who will go to the Olympics. Selection for the Olympics was the main task. This tournament was decisive for Timur in this regard. He and David Karapetyan competed, but David unfortunately lost. That’s probably the problem,” Arbuzov Sr. told .
The World Championship will end on May 24. The Russians are participating in the tournament in neutral status.
The Paris Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
