The President of the Russian Judo Federation spoke about the role and contract of Ezio Gamba in the Russian national team

General Director of the Russian Judo Team Ezio Gamba leads all training camps with the team, his new contract will be discussed after the Paris Olympics, President of the Russian Judo Federation (FDR) Sergei Soloveichik told .

Gamba has been working in the Russian national team since 2008. At the World Championships in Abu Dhabi in May, the Russians won three medals. Tamerlan Bashaev took third place in the weight category over 100 kg, Madina Taymazova became third (up to 70 kg), and Timur Arbuzov took second place (up to 81 kg).

— How does Gamba participate in the training process?

“He comes to training camp and spends all his days there with the team. He works with both coaches and athletes. Its task is more strategic.

— Are you satisfied with the way this process is going?

– You can call him and ask him questions about any fight, he monitors everything. There is always a comment from him, it’s completely normal. If you remember, when he arrived, he immediately said that Russian coaches would train the guys. He prepares the technical staff and believes that there should be no replacement.

— What is the duration of the current contract?

— We have a contract until the Olympic Games. We only discussed a new deal with him after the Games. After the Olympics are over, we sit and talk. That’s right, because there is no need to get distracted, we need to prepare for the Olympics and not think about who will work next,” Soloveichik told .

Gamba won the 1980 Moscow Olympics as a judoka.
