The American spoke about how he is preparing to fight the Ukrainian ex-champion in the light heavyweight division
American interim WBC super middleweight title holder David Benavidez spoke about his preparation for the fight with the Ukrainian Alexander Gvozdyk for the vacant WBC interim light heavyweight title.
“I will be extremely ready, extremely motivated and in good physical shape.”
“We will try to achieve the best knockout [в моей карьере] in this fight. I’m 100% ready. Last week I did a check weigh-in. 188 lbs. 13 pounds [осталось]so I’m very close and very happy.”
I hit harder [в 175 фунтах]. I feel like people didn’t see the best in me. At 175 I will be able to showcase the best David Benavidez. I still have a lot to prove to myself. I’m not done yet.”
Benavidez, 27, fought his last fight in November 2023. David defeated Demetrius Andrade, who refused to continue the fight after the sixth round. David spent his last few fights in the super middleweight division (up to 168 pounds or 76.2 kg). For the fight with Gvozdyk, he moves up to the light heavyweight category (up to 175 pounds or 79.4 kg).
The fight between Gvozdyk and Benavidez will take place on June 15. The event will be hosted by Las Vegas, with a boxing evening scheduled at the Grand Garden Arena. The fight between Alexander and David will take place on the undercard of the confrontation between WBA champion Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin.
Gvozdyk knocked out Brazilian boxer Isaac Rodriguez in his last fight. This is Alexander’s third victory after resuming his career. Prior to this, the Ukrainian knocked out Latvian boxer Richards Bolotniks in the 6th round.
