Information about the fight was announced by the Chairman of the General Authority of Entertainment of Saudi Arabia, Turki Al ash-Sheikh
The date of the second fight between the absolute world champion, holder of the WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO/WBC heavyweight belts has become known Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs) and former WBC world champion Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs).
Chairman of the Saudi Arabian General Entertainment Authority Turks Al ash-Sheikh announced that a rematch will take place December 21, 2024. The event, like the first fight, will take place in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Also, as part of the grand boxing evening in Saudi Arabia, victories were won by Ukrainian Daniel Lapin (new WBA Continental light heavyweight champion), Jay Opetaya (won the IBF heavyweight title), Moses Itauma (new WBO Intercontinental heavyweight champion), Agit Kabayel (mandatory challenger for the WBC heavyweight title) and Anthony Cacace (new IBF super featherweight champion).
Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
Alexander is the second boxer in history after Evander Holyfield, who was the absolute world champion in cruiserweight and heavyweight. Also, the Ukrainian boxer became the third (after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue) in the era of four prestigious titles to become the absolute champion in two weight categories.
It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option.
Turki Al ash-Sheikh first stated that the rematch between Alexander and Tyson was scheduled for October 12-13 in Riyadh. According to the head of the promotion company Top Rank Bob Arum, the fight should take place either at the end of 2024 or at the beginning of 2025 in Saudi Arabia.
