Russian fighter Umar Nurmagomedov will become a contender for a title fight in the UFC bantamweight division if he defeats American Corey Sandhagen, said promotion head Dana White.
Nurmagomedov and Sandhagen will meet in the main event of the UFC tournament in Abu Dhabi (UAE) on August 3.
“The fight between Umar and Corey will be for the title of number one contender in the bantamweight division,” White said in a video on social media.
Umar Nurmagomedov is 28 years old; his last fight took place with Kazakh Bekzat Almakhan in March 2024 at UFC Vegas 87. In this fight, the Russian won by unanimous decision. In total, he has 17 victories and no defeats.
Sandhagen, 32, last entered the Octagon against Rob Font in August 2023 at UFC on ESPN 50 and won by unanimous decision. He has 17 victories and four defeats.
