IOC to ban boxers from IBA member federations from competing in 2028 Olympic Games

International Olympic Committee (CIO ) will not allow boxers from federations that are part of the International Boxing Association (IBA) to participate in the 2028 Olympic Games, reports the IOC press service.

Last summer, the IBA was deprived of its recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The organization’s exclusion from the Olympic movement was later confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Earlier on Wednesday, the IBA announced it would pay out prize money to Olympic boxing medalists at the 2024 Paris Games.

— Boxing is currently not included in the sports program for the 2028 Olympic Games. The IOC has made it clear that it cannot organize Olympic boxing competitions. To solve this problem, Olympic boxing must be organized by a well-run and credible international organization.

Any boxer whose national federation adheres to the IBA cannot fail to participate in the Olympic Games in 2028. The national committee concerned must exclude this national boxing federation from its members, indicates the IOC press release.

The Los Angeles Olympic Games will take place in July 2028.
