Malik Scott: Usyk withstood a lot of pressure and won a good victory

The famous coach was pleased with the fight for the undisputed heavyweight title

Malik Scottcoach of ex-world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, was pleased with the fight for the title of absolute world champion between the Ukrainian Alexander Usik and British Tyson Fury.

“It was a great event before the fight. Undercard fights, entertainment, good selection of boxers.”

“Then there was a very good fight. I was glad that Usyk won. Before the fight, I thought Usyk would stop Fury with a cut. But for a long time I wasn’t sure who would win.”

“Usyk did it and he won under pressure. The Ukrainian went through a difficult period and won very well. Respect for him, respect for his country. It was a great victory, and if you know him, you should be happy for him.”

On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.

It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
