UFC lightweight champion of Russia Islam Makhachev called the American Dustin Poirier not to end his fighting career after their face-to-face at UFC 302.
The fight between Makhachev and Poirier will take place on June 2 in Newark (USA, New Jersey). Poirier, 35, has 30 victories and eight defeats. Makhachev, 32, has 25 victories and one defeat.
“Dustin is old and talking about retiring, but I don’t want him to leave after the fight if I beat him. This guy is still very dangerous and can beat anyone. He’s among the top five in the world, that’s why I’m preparing so hard,” Makhachev said, as quoted by NBC Sport.
The Russian also indicated that he was open to any offer from the UFC.
“I’m just thinking about the next fight.” It’s not my role to think about the future because I have a manager. I have a team. I will face whoever they accommodate me with. If it’s Arman (Tsarukyan), or Leon (Edwards), or someone else… I’ll be ready,” he added.
