Bogachuk is ready to replace Tim Tszyu in the fight against Virgil Ortiz

The Australian will not be able to enter the ring on August 3 due to injuries

Interim WBC junior middleweight champion Sergei Bogachuk ready to replace the former world champion Tim Tszyu in a fight with the holder of the WBO International welterweight belt Virgil Ortiz.

The Australian was scheduled to fight Ortiz on August 3. However, Tim pulled out of the fight on the advice of his doctor. Tszyu will not have time to recover in time for the fight from the injuries and cuts he received in the fight with Sebastian Fundora. Ortiz, however, remains on the fight card for this date and is looking for a new opponent.

“Sergey is in a great position as the WBC interim champion and mandatory challenger, but he is definitely interested in fighting Virgil. Bogachuk lives and trains in Los Angeles, as does Virgil, so it would be an ideal fight in Los Angeles if it can be organized,” said the Ukrainian’s promoter Tom Loeffler.

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian confidently defeated the American Brian Mendoza in a fight that took place at the end of March in Las Vegas. At the end of 12 rounds, all judges gave the victory to Bogachuk – 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111.

Bogachuk himself previously expressed the opinion that he should make several defenses of his interim title before staging a high-profile fight. Among the desired future top rivals, the Ukrainian named Sebastian Fundora.

Virgil Ortiz defeated Thomas Dulorme from Puerto Rico in his last fight. The American won all his fights ahead of schedule.
