Former absolute world boxing champion Mike Tyson made a statement after a post about postponing the fight with blogger Jake Paul due to health concerns with the 57-year-old boxer.
On July 20, Tyson was supposed to meet blogger Jake Paul in the ring. In April, it was announced that the fight would have professional status. In late May, Tyson suffered a medical emergency on a Miami-Los Angeles flight due to a worsening ulcer; he began experiencing nausea and dizziness 30 minutes before landing. On Friday, it became known that the fight scheduled for July 20 had been postponed due to Tyson’s health problems.
“I would like to thank my fans around the world for their support and understanding. Unfortunately, due to the worsening of the ulcer, the doctors recommended that I reduce my load for several weeks, rest and recover. Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end you will be out of boxing forever. I look forward to an unforgettable performance later this year,” Tyson was quoted as saying by Foxnews.
Tyson turns 58 on June 30; he fought his last official fight in 2005. In total, his record includes 50 victories and six defeats. The new fight date will be announced before June 7.
