Todd DuBoeuf criticized the Ukrainian’s fighting style
President of the promotion company TopRank Todd DuBoeuf believes that the best boxer in the world, regardless of weight category (P4P), is the absolute world champion in the second bantamweight division Naoya Inoueand not the holder of the undisputed heavyweight title Alexander Usik.
“I think Naoya Inoue is the best in the world, Oleksandr Usyk is not even close. People are passionate about P4P ratings, but their opinion easily changes after each last performance.”
“If I showed you the fifth round of the Fury vs. Usyk fight and said, ‘He’s the number one guy, pound-for-pound,’ you’d say, ‘What? How can he be number one, he gets hit with every fucking uppercut? His head is raised, his hands are down.
“We didn’t see that with Inoue. The Japanese got a knockdown in his last fight, but it was nothing. “Usyk didn’t get knocked down, but you saw him get hit to the body in the Dubois fight, which people thought was controversial.”
“Inoue masterfully conquered all divisions and fought everyone. He’s confident and the way he destroys people is really unique.”
Let us remind you that in the latest edition of the P4P rating from the authoritative magazine The Ring, Usik came out on top. Inoue, who previously topped the list of best fighters, moved to second place.
On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat in his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
