Head coach of the Russian judo team: “The strongest went to the Olympics, there was absolutely healthy competition”

The head coach of the Russian judo team, Hasanbi Taov, told that the strongest athletes will go to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Russian Judo Federation on Tuesday revealed the list of athletes who will compete in the 2024 Olympics. The national team roster includes seven men and five women, including 2023 world champion Inal Tasoev and 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Madina Taymazova.

— Of course, the strongest go to the Olympic Games. The guys had a choice. There were worthy contenders in every weight class. Through their performances at tournaments, at the European Championships and at the World Championships, the strongest athletes were determined. I don’t even think any questions were asked about the guys who were selected. There was absolutely healthy competition,” Taov told .

The games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in December 2023 that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have individual neutral status without a flag, anthem or other national symbol. The IOC also banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
