President of the Russian Judo Federation Soloveichik explained the choice of the team for the Paris Olympics

President of the Russian Judo Federation Sergey Soloveichik explained to on what principle the composition of the Russian national team for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris was formed.

The Russian Judo Federation announced the roster of athletes for the 2024 Games on Tuesday. The national team roster includes seven men and five women, including 2023 world champion Inal Tasoev and 2020 Olympic bronze medalist Madina Taymazova.

— Why exactly are these people going to the Games?

— The decision was taken by the technical staff, and it was based on the sporting results: these were the points scored in qualifications, and the personal meetings with the strongest judokas, everything was taken into account. The fittest guys and girls were objectively included in the team.

— Did the place among men over 100 kilos where Tamerlan Bashaev and Tasoev performed cause controversy?

– No, there was no argument either between the coaches or between the athletes. Tasoev’s rating is higher. Well, as I said, victories over competitors were also taken into account. To date, Tasoev has the best results.

— Were there any other questions regarding the composition?

– Everyone accepted it easily. When a lot of work has been done, when clear selection rules are stated, the decision is made easily,” Soloveichik told .

The games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced in December 2023 that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Olympics to have individual neutral status without a flag, anthem or other national symbol. The IOC also banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO.
