Hearn: Joshua’s preferred opponent is Tyson Fury

Everything depends on the rematch between Tyson and Alexander Usik

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that his ward, the former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua should have a championship fight with Tyson Fury.

“All we hear from the Chairman of the General Authority of Saudi Arabian Entertainment is Turks Al ash-Sheikh, that AJ will fight the winner of the Fury-Usyk fight if Joshua wins in September. Let’s be honest, if Fury wins, then we have to make the fight against AJ by any means possible. Everyone needs this.”

“Joshua wants to be undisputed. One way or another we have to get there. He would really like to fight Usyk again if he beats Fury. Here the score is 2-0. It’s a difficult task, but Joshua is much better now. Of course, the preferred opponent is Tyson Fury.”

On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).

The head of the promotion company Queensberry Promotions, Frank Warren, reported that Joshua’s team is negotiating a fight with Daniel Dubois. The British Derby is scheduled for September 21st. The arena for the event will be Wembley Stadium.

Joshua defeated former UFC world champion Francis Ngannou in his last fight. After the fight, Eddie Hearn named Anthony the No. 1 heavyweight boxer in the world. Joshua himself spoke about his desire to fight the next fight in June, but he was offered to postpone the fight to September.
