Tommy accused the judges of getting the count wrong
British boxer Tommy Furybrother of the former WBC heavyweight title holder Tyson Furycommented on the upcoming rematch of the “Gypsy King” with the absolute world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik.
Tommy also spoke about Fury’s first confrontation with Usyk. According to the Briton, the judges’ decisions were not fair enough.
“Tyson is doing fine. It was a close fight after all. I thought Tyson did enough to win. I think that in the first half of the fight there was a defeat, and after that he took a couple more rounds. But at the end of the day, this is boxing. There are different judicial decisions, and Tyson will return in revenge.”
“There is no doubt that when the rematch comes, he will right the wrongs, get the win and then move on. 100 percent that Tyson will win this time.”
On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
Alexander is the second boxer in history after Evander Holyfield, who was the absolute world champion in cruiserweight and heavyweight. Also, the Ukrainian boxer became the third (after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue) in the era of four prestigious titles to become the absolute champion in two weight categories.
It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
