Bellew: Usyk is the greatest cruiser. And he will go down in history as one of the greatest heavyweights

Earlier, the former world champion in the first heavyweight predicted the victory of the Ukrainian on points

Former world cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew commented on his own forecast for the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between Alexander Usik And Tyson Fury.

“In fact, I gave the forecast for the Usik vs. Tyson Fury fight as I saw it. I saw this fight the way I saw it. It went just as I said. But I’m also wrong. It is what it is”.

Let us remember that Bellew had previously repeatedly predicted the victory of the Ukrainian boxer on points. Now the Briton does not skimp on compliments to Alexander:

“I wish them both well. It’s great that they are both amazing, wonderful people. Alexander Usik – what a guy, what a person. The greatest cruiser that ever lived. And let me tell you, he will also go down in history as one of the greatest heavyweights ever.”

On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.

Alexander is the second boxer in history after Evander Holyfield, who was the absolute world champion in cruiserweight and heavyweight. Also, the Ukrainian boxer became the third (after Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue) in the era of four prestigious titles to become the absolute champion in two weight categories.

It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
