Lviv Regional Boxing Federation announced the election of the head was rigged Boxing Federation of Ukraine.
The Olympic silver medalist, WBA world champion, vice-president of the Ukrainian Boxing Federation also joined the statement Andrey Kotelnikwho also ran for the post of head of the FBU.
The report claims that during the election of the FBU president there was no suitable quorum: 15 regional organizations out of the required 20 were present at the meeting. In addition, the Lviv Federation notes that the FBU does not present the final results of the elections.
“People who are not involved in this sport want to usurp power in Ukrainian boxing, guided only by their own interests and ambitions. I would like to know the opinion and motives of those regional federations and cells that thus elect the president of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine. What were you guided by when choosing a person as president, perhaps experienced as a manager, but unknown in boxing, not knowing all the components, specifics and nuances of this sport?”
At an extraordinary conference of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine, which took place in Zhitomir, Oleg Ilchenko was elected its new president on a full-fledged basis. His candidacy received unanimous support.
In addition, at the conference it was decided to abolish the powers of the former head of the Federation, Vladimir Prodivus. The latter announced in May his intentions to return to this position in accordance with a court decision.
Ilchenko served as acting head of the Ukrainian Boxing Federation after Kirill Shevchenko left this position.
Let us remind you that Shevchenko was elected president of the FBU in February 2022 at an extraordinary reporting and election conference. The functionary was supported by representatives of 17 regional federations. The previous head of the FBU, Vladimir Prodivus, opposed this decision. The functionary filed a lawsuit and succeeded in overturning the decision of the state registrar to include Shevchenko in the register as head of the federation.
Subsequently, Prodivus announced his resignation as head of the FBU. In August 2023, Shevchenko was reinstated as President of the Federation.
