The Ukrainian lost to the American boxer by decision
Former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz commented on the Ukrainian’s fight Alexandra Gvozdika with an American David Benavidez for the vacant WBC interim title.
“It feels like I’ve been watching this fight since the fourth round. But Benavidez did his job. His opponent was strong and capable of taking a punch, but Benavidez fought the fight well.
“What should Benavidez do – stay at light heavyweight or go back to second middleweight for a fight with Canelo? I think either way it will be great. It was a good experience for him, a good fight, a tough opponent. But David did his job. The main thing is that he won.”
Let us remind you that on the night of June 16, Benavidez inflicted the second defeat in his professional career on Gvozdyk. In the title fight, which took place in Las Vegas at the Grand Garden Arena, the American won by unanimous decision.
The 37-year-old Gvozdyk suffered his first defeat since his return to the ring in February 2023. Earlier, in 2020, the Ukrainian ended his career, but then decided to return to professional boxing. From 2016 to 2019, he held the WBC light heavyweight title. In 2012, Alexander became the bronze medalist of the Olympics.
