Multiple medalist of the Russian women’s wrestling championships Marina Simonian told that she was upset because she was not included in the number of wrestlers who will go to the Paris Olympics.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) last week named 14 Russian athletes who, as of June 15, had received neutral status to participate in the 2024 Games. Among them are 10 wrestling representatives: Nachyn Mongush, Shamil Mamedov, Arslan Bagaev, Abdulla Kurbanov, Alan Ostaev, Magomed Murtazaliev, Natalya Malysheva, Veronika Chumikova, Alina Kasabieva and Elizaveta Petlyakova.
— How did you feel about this decision?
— I can’t say anything, as the list is very small, it doesn’t suit me.
– For what? Did you want to be there?
– Yes, but they didn’t give me permission. It turns out that the girl, number three in our weight class, made it. Only she had access to it. It’s a shame? I wouldn’t say it because nothing depends on me. It’s unpleasant, that’s all.
— With this attitude, are you not going to follow the Olympic Games?
– I will, but I don’t know if it’s for the fight. But I wish good luck to everyone who goes. All of them will fight for our country,” Simonyan told .
The Paris Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11.
