Parker: Usyk was able to take his toll at the end of the fight with Fury

Joe is looking forward to the rematch

Interim WBO world champion Joseph Parker believes that the British boxer Tyson Fury and absolute world heavyweight champion Alexander Usik put on an excellent show in the first confrontation, in which the Ukrainian was successful at the end of the match.

“It was hard to watch this fight. Usyk is a very talented fighter, and he was able to take his toll in the end of the fight. It was hard to watch Tyson take such damage in the ninth round, but he showed great courage when he was able to continue this fight and finish 12 rounds. It was a tough fight and I’m looking forward to the rematch.”

On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.

It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).
