Hearn: Lomachenko is a very good fighter, but Gervonta has very heavy hands

Hearn believes that “Tank” has a very high level of boxing IQ

Promoter Eddie Hearn commented on the possible holding of a fight between the IBF and IBO lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko and WBA belt holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

“Lomachenko is a very good fighter. Gervonta just has very heavy hands. I remember winning my first world title against Pedraza. I was in the ringside then, and I could see this power. He was a featherweight or super featherweight back then.”

“I think he has very heavy hands, he has good ring IQ. I think he’s a big favorite against Lomachenko. But “Tank” loses the rounds. If you look at all these fights against Ryan Garcia, Barrios, Isaac Cruz, Frank Martin. He lost many rounds. But he relies on his power and finds a way to victory.”

Earlier, promoter Bob Arum said that representatives of the American and Ukrainian have been negotiating for several weeks about a head-to-head confrontation between the two champions. According to preliminary information, the Lomachenko-Davis fight could take place in November 2024.

On the night of June 16, Gervonta defended his championship title, knocking out compatriot Frank Martin. The 29-year-old boxer remains undefeated, and he won 28 of his thirty victories ahead of schedule.

On May 12, Lomachenko defeated Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout in his last fight. The Ukrainian won the vacant IBF lightweight belt, which was previously vacated by his previous opponent Devin Haney. Vasily also took away the IBO belt, which Kambosos owned.
