Russian fighter from Yekaterinburg Kamran Nabati will try to get into the main roster of the ONE League and will fight on June 28 at the Lumpini Stadium. To do that, he needs to score a convincing victory over 27-year-old Suablac, who he has already met outside of ONE and won. The fight will take place under Muay Thai rules in the ONE bantamweight division (65.8 kg).
Initially, Kamran Nabati was supposed to fight Kulabdam on May 24 in the main bout of the ONE Friday Fights 64 tournament. However, Kulabdam was injured the day before and was forced to withdraw from the fight.
Suablac has had six fights in ONE and is still undefeated. In total, he has 59 victories and 18 defeats. Undefeated in his professional career, 29-year-old Nabati (20-0) represents the Archangel Michael team from Yekaterinburg. He is a former RCC Fair Fight featherweight champion. In ONE, Nabati fought two fights against Pongsiri and Avatar and won both by unanimous decision.
Nabati talked about the storylines of this fight, the goals of this Asian promotion and the fight tactics in an interview with ONE.
—What is the plot of this battle?
“It will be an interesting and exciting fight because he wants revenge on me and I want to take away his permanent contract with ONE. So what awaits you is an uncompromising duel, and not just a fight between two fighters. We already have history – we met in the past, I knocked him out before. Suablac wants revenge on me, but I won’t let him. I’m going to take away what belongs to him: his contract, his glory. That’s why he interests me: he has what I should have. On the other hand, thanks to the postponement of the fight, I have more time to adapt to a new opponent. My new opponent is left-handed, like the previous one, so we have already adjusted the strategy. Our task is to go out and win.
— How did you react to the announcement of the postponement of your last fight with Kulabdam, as well as the replacement of your opponent by Suablac?
– Of course, it was difficult for me to accept the fact that 2-3 days before the fight my opponent had left and he had not found a replacement. I was in good shape, already losing the last weight. When a person has been preparing and plowing for a whole month, hearing such news can be very distressing.
—Was it difficult for you to change opponents in such a short time?
— He and I fought outside of ONE before, and I won. I want to fight him, but I wouldn’t be interested in him without a contract on ONE’s main roster. Now I’m preparing to take everything he’s got.
— How do you assess Suablac’s chances in this battle?
— Suablac is a good fighter, but since he came to ONE, he has yet to face opponents as serious as me. He now faces a serious test. I already checked it once, but the battle ended before it even started. But we both changed during that time. Overall he is a good fighter, he has everything in his arsenal. He knows how to do everything – punches and kicks, good clinch, but my team and I are ready for any turn of events.
— What are your ambitions in ONE Championship?
“I have long dreamed of fighting here.” Now I’m walking a thorny path, but I’m not going to stop. My main goal is a contract, then a championship belt. Now the contract motivates me because I want to be among the best.
— Are you going for a knockout to get a bonus?
— Bonuses are good, but I don’t focus on them. We always want to make money, get a knockout, but if you think a lot about a knockout, then it might not come to you. The main thing is to go fight, win and prepare for every round. A knockout is the result of preparation and hard work, and I will try to achieve that.
