Cameroonian boxer Maxim Yegnong Njiee, in the 1/8 final heavyweight division bout with India’s representative Sagar Ahlawat at the Commonwealth Games in the UK, missed and punched the female referee officiating the fight.
Referee Paola Falorni separated the fighters after one of the bouts an annoyed Cameroonian delivered a left hook but was unsuccessful. It hit the neck of the judge, who was able to resist the blow and stand.
The Cameroonian apologized, the fight continued and Ahlavat won by unanimous decision and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Commonwealth Games.
These Games are a sporting event for the member states of the Commonwealth of Nations. The competitions take place in Birmingham. They started on July 28 and will end on August 8, 2022.
