UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev supported the Russian mixed style fighter Ikrama Aliskerova after losing to Australian Robert Whittaker at the UFC in Saudi Arabia.
The 31-year-old Russian was an emergency replacement for Khamzat Chimaev during the UFC tournament in Saudi Arabia on June 22. Aliskerov flew to Riyadh from Las Vegas, where he was scheduled to perform on June 15. In the first round, the Russian fighter missed a series of punches from Whittaker, after which the referee stopped the fight.
– Your best days are yet to come, defeats are no reason to get upset. We know what you are capable of,” Makhachev wrote on social media.
During his MMA career, 31-year-old Aliskerov has 15 victories and suffered two defeats. Whittaker, 33, has 26 wins and seven losses.
