The promoter believes that in an equal fight, the “Gypsy King” dominated the first half, and then the Ukrainian was stronger
The elder of the promotion workshop Bob Arum shared his opinion why the former WBC title holder Tyson Fury will be able to defeat the absolute world champion in heavyweight in a rematch Alexandra Usika.
“I thought Fury won in a close fight, but I could have foreseen that everything would turn out differently, which is what happened… When Tyson starts training, he needs to be ready to box the full 12 rounds, because, in my opinion, the first half of the fight is without options stayed with Fury.”
“Then in the eighth round Usyk turned on and won the eighth to the 11th, and Tyson came back and won the 12th. If Tyson trains well and goes 12 full rounds, he should be able to beat Usyk.”
On the night of May 19, Usik inflicted the first defeat of Fury in his professional career in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Usik became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
It was reported that an agreement had been reached between Usyk and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option.
The second fight between Usik and Fury will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said that he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight.
