UFC fighter Rinat Fakhretdinov spoke to about his weight loss ahead of the fight with Nicholas Dalby on June 22 at a tournament in Saudi Arabia.
Undefeated in the UFC, Fakhretdinov competes in the welterweight category and, according to the regulations, must display 77.6 kg on the scales the day before the tournament. In the last match, the Russian defeated Dalby by split decision, extending his unbeaten streak to five fights.
— You said you lost 21 kilos before this fight. And for how long?
— When the fight was scheduled for me, my weight was 98 kg, it was just the end of Ramadan (April 9 — approximately “”). For some reason I gain weight during Ramadan even though everyone else loses it. And we did a lot of weight training with coach Oleg Protasov. Heavy weights, creatine, that fascinates me. Then I gave up and already cut back on a lot of it in my diet. But overall, this was my easiest cut. The day before the weigh-in, I had to lose four kilos, which is nothing at all.
— With what weight did you enter the cage?
— In the UFC, they weigh in the arena. That’s right, I wore clothes. About 88-89 kg, and before I left I weighed, I think, around 87.5 kg. But that’s not all I won, although, in principle, there is no need to do more, ”Fakhretdinov told .
