The Ukrainian boxer is about to lose the title of absolute world champion in the super heavyweight division.
Alexander Usik actually refused the IBF title, it was confirmed by the Ukrainian boxer’s team. We remind you that earlier Usik recorded a video in which he announced his decision to give the belt to the future winner of the Dubois-Joshua fight.
According to Usik’s promoter, Alexander Krasyuk, the Ukrainian boxer really decided to give up the IBF title, without it he would lose his status as the absolute world heavyweight champion.
“Yes, we can assume Usik has relinquished the IBF title,” Krasyuk told the Tribune.
At the same time, famous boxing journalist and analyst Dan Rafael explained why Usik decided to give up the IBF championship title.
“Olexandr Usik had absolutely no choice in the first contract for the fight with Tyson Fury, it was stipulated that the winner of the megafight must vacate the IBF title,” wrote Rafael.
In turn, Usik’s manager, Egis Klimas, said this was not true. According to him, Ukrainians just like it that way.
“This is not true. We do not have such a clause in the contract that this was done because he wanted to,” Klimas wrote.
