Spencer Brown says Ukrainian ‘leads 1-0’ but ‘second half’ ahead
Spencer Brownmanager of a former world heavyweight champion Tyson Furyspoke about his ward’s mood for a rematch with the Ukrainian Alexander Usikwho held the status of absolute world heavyweight champion for more than a month.
“Tyson will become the undisputed champion. We lose 1:0. It’s a break now. There will be a second half. You have to remember that Usyk’s team is the greatest team in the world. “They graciously agreed to a rematch and it’s just a different fight—it’s a different fight for Tyson and he’s going to win it.”
“The fight is not for undisputed status? It’s a shame, but it happens. That’s life. She is who she is. Let someone else take the stage and become world champion. Tyson doesn’t care.”
“What I see in Tyson — I’ve talked to him and discussed this at length — he’s really ready for this fight. It’s not about the money. He wants to win and get back what he feels is his right, and he wants his world title back. It doesn’t matter anymore. All he wants is to win. Forget about the money, forget about everything. From what I’ve seen, he’s very focused on getting that win back.”
“We have already started preparing – we have already discussed what we will do, what went wrong. Things could have gone differently – he was caught in the ninth [раунде]. This crossed out the fight.”
“How much does he need to improve? He was very close, wasn’t he? We think he will be 25-40, maybe 50 percent better in this fight. It was a thin margin.”
Let us recall that on the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted the first defeat of his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.
Alexander became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.
Usyk subsequently issued a statement in which he announced that he would give the IBF belt to the winner of the British derby between his two former opponents in the ring – Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.. Thus, Alexander lost the status of absolute world heavyweight champion, which he had held for more than a month.
An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight.
