Frank Warren believes the Ukrainian boxer chose big money over defending his championship belt.
Oleksandr Usyk gave up the IBF belt because he didn’t want to lose a lot of money. Frank Warren, promoter of former champion Tyson Fury, thinks so.
According to the functionary, the Ukrainian has a signed contract for a rematch with his ward. If Usyk decides to defend the title, he could lose a lot of money for the fight with Fury.
“All roads will lead to unification again. Usyk will receive a huge fee for the rematch against Fury, for which he was contracted. That is the situation. For him, this is pure business.”
As for holding the belt, he won’t refuse. Usyk is in it for the money, and it’s clear that the rematch is a big fight that everyone wants to see.
Whatever happens, the winner of this September 21 Joshua-Dubois fight, which will be Daniel, will fight the winner of that fight, and four belts will be on the line again,” Warren was quoted as saying by BOXING NEWS 24/7.
We remind you that the rematch between Usik and Fury is scheduled for December 21. Daniel Dubois has been promoted to full IBF champion.
Earlier, the IBF commented on Usik’s rejection of the title.
