International Olympic Committee (CIO ) represented by the President Thomas Bach is carrying out a political order to prevent Russian athletes from attending the Paris Olympics, the president of the Russian Wrestling Federation told . Mikhail Mamiashvili .
The IOC on Friday allowed four Russian judokas to compete in the Paris Summer Olympics in neutral status. The list included Valery Endovitsky, Elis Startseva, Dali Liluashvili and Makhmadbek Makhmadbekov. In total, the Russian team had 12 quotas for participation in the Games – 7 for men and 5 for women. The president of the Russian Judo Federation, Sergei Soloveichik, had announced at the time that Russian judokas would not participate in the 2024 Games.
“Thomas Bach and the IOC as a whole have no justification for our non-admission. This is a difficult political order, but God will judge them. We have been through a lot and we will get through this,” Mamiashvili told .
In February 2022, the IOC recommended that sports federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments. Later, the recommendations were softened, and in December 2023, IOC chief Thomas Bach announced that the organization would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who passed the selection process to the 2024 Summer Games in an individual neutral status. The athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem, and other national symbols.
The Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11.
