The Ukrainian national team refused to participate in the World Youth Championship in Thai Boxing (Muay Thai) due to the fact that athletes from Russia and Belarus will perform there.
– Athletes from Russia and Belarus are allowed to participate in the World Championship, despite the appeal of the Ukrainian Thai Boxing Federation to withdraw them from participation in international sporting events.
Due to this position of the international federation, the Ukrainian national team refuses to participate in the World Championship, which is scheduled for August 9-21, 2022 in the city of Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), said the Ukrainian Ministry of Youth and Sports in a statement.
At the end of February, the IOC Executive Board recommended that international federations withdraw Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine. Many federations followed these recommendations, but some of them allowed Russians and Belarusians to compete in a neutral status.
