The former world champion believes that the Ukrainian will soon end his career
Former world champion in three weight categories Jorge Linares believes that the IBF and IBO lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko will lose by TKO to the WBA belt holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
“This is a dangerous fight for Lomachenko. But Loma is completely ready. I believe that he will soon want to end his career. I don’t think he can fight more than two fights now. I think this is an amazing fight for the fans. But this is a dangerous fight for Lomachenko. In my opinion, if this fight takes place, Gervonta can win by technical knockout.”
“Lomachenko is fast, he can use angles and everything else. But what happened in Gervonta’s last fight? Everything was the same: from the first to the fifth round he lost on points. But after that he found the moment, the timing, the pace.”
Earlier, promoter Bob Arum said that representatives of Lomachenko and Davis have been negotiating for several weeks about a face-to-face confrontation between the two champions. According to preliminary information, the Lomachenko-Davis fight could take place in November 2024.
On the night of June 16, Gervonta defended his championship title, knocking out compatriot Frank Martin. The 29-year-old boxer remains undefeated, and he won 28 of his thirty victories ahead of schedule.
On May 12, Lomachenko defeated Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout in his last fight. The Ukrainian won the vacant IBF lightweight belt, which was previously vacated by his previous opponent Devin Haney. Vasily also took the IBO belt, which was held by Kambosos.
