Warren: We’ll see if Tyson can do what Joshua couldn’t do

The verbal altercation between AJ and Frank escalates

Promoter Frank Warren replied to the ex-world champion Anthony Joshua about whether he can Tyson Fury defeat the WBO/WBA/IBO/WBC heavyweight title holder in a rematch Alexandra Usika.

Joshua said that Fury is not able to defeat the Ukrainian in a repeat fight. According to Warren, Joshua is wrong, since he himself suffered two defeats in two meetings with Usyk.

“We’ll see. Look, we’ll see if Tyson can do what Joshua couldn’t do, because on two occasions there was no chance he was going to beat Usyk. We’ll see if Tyson proves Joshua wrong on December 21. One thing is for sure: Joshua didn’t beat Usyk.”

Let us recall that on the night of May 19, Usyk inflicted the first defeat of his professional career on Tyson Fury in a fight that took place at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The victory was awarded to the Ukrainian by a split decision of the judges: 115-112, 113-114 and 114-113.

Alexander became the first absolute world heavyweight champion in the era of four belts. In the heavyweight division, the last time Lennox Lewis held absolute status was in 1999, but then three titles were enough for this title.

Subsequently, Usyk made an appeal in which he stated that he was giving the IBF belt to the winner of the British derby between his two former opponents in the ring – Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua. Thus, Alexander lost the status of absolute world champion in heavyweight, which he held for more than a month.

An agreement has been concluded between Usik and Fury for a re-fight. The “Gypsy King” has officially activated the rematch option. The second fight between Alexander and Tyson will take place on December 21, 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said he would seek the introduction of video replays in this fight.
