Makhachev refused rematch with Poirier: “I need a new goal”

UFC Lightweight Champion of Russia Islam Makhachev refused the American’s offer Dustin Poirier to have a revenge.

The fight between Makhachev and Poirier took place on June 1 at UFC 302 in New Jersey and ended with the Russian winning by fifth-round choke. On April 13, Russian fighter Arman Tsarukyan defeated Brazilian Charles Oliveira at UFC 300 and became a contender for Makhachev’s belt. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended and fined Tsarukyan for getting into a fight with a fan before his fight with Oliveira. In July, Poirier proposed a rematch with Makhachev on social media, writing, “If Tsarukyan can’t fight, then let’s do it again.”

– No thanks. “I need a new goal,” the Russian replied.

During his MMA career, Islam Makhachev has 26 wins and one loss. Poirier has 30 wins, nine losses, one fight was declared invalid.
